12 Ways to Be A Missional Church for the 12 Days of Christmas

Adapted from www.friendofmissional.org

  1. A missional church will seek to plant all types of missional communities to extend the Kingdom of God.
  2. A missional church is evangelistic and faithfully proclaims the gospel through word and deed. Words alone are not sufficient; how the gospel is embodied in our community and service is as important as what we say.
  3. A missional church seeks to put the good of their neighbor over their own.
  4. A missional church practices hospitality by welcoming the stranger into the midst of the community.
  5. A missional church will see themselves as representatives of Jesus and will do nothing to dishonor his name.
  6. A missional church will be totally reliant on God in all it does. It will move beyond superficial faith to a life of supernatural living.
  7. A missional church will be desperately dependent on prayer.
  8. A missional church is orthodox in its view of the gospel and scripture, but culturally relevant in its methods and practice so that it can engage the worldview of the hearers.
  9. A missional church will feed deeply on the scriptures throughout the week.
  10. A missional church will be a community where all members are involved in learning "the way of Jesus." Spiritual development is an expectation.
  11. A missional church will help people discover and develop their spiritual gifts and will rely on gifted people for ministry instead of talented people.
  12. A missional church is a healing community where people carry each other's burdens and help restore gently.

Comments

I really enjoyed the 12 days of Christmas and 12 ways to be a missional church. Those guidelines are great. I have printed them out to refer to them often and look forward to being part of how my church implements them in it's becoming a "missional church".
