It's Time To Let Go!

Last night I was reading Nemo to my 3 year old. Right in the middle was a scene that jumped out at me. For those of you who don't dine regularly with a 3 year old and 4 year old in full princess regalia at the breakfast table, Nemo is the star of a Disney film.

Nemo is a clownfish who is captured by dentist and taken to an office aquarium. Marlin is Nemo's father, who embarks on a quest to rescue his son. Marlin befriends a blue tang named Dory. At one point, Marlin and Dory are swallowed by a whale. Swimming in the jaws of the whale, Marlin is greatly distressed. Dory remembers she can speak whale.
Dory: [the whale speaks to her] Okay, that one was a little tougher. He either said "go to the back of the throat", or "he wants a root-beer float".
Marlin: Of course he wants us to go there! That's EATING us!! [rubs his tail on the whale's tongue] How do I taste, Moby? Do I taste good?! [to Dory] You tell him I'm not interested in being lunch!
Dory: Okay. HeeEEEEE--
Marlin: Stop talking to him!!!
Dory: He [the whale] says "It's time to let go!"
Marlin: But, but, how do you know nothing bad will happen?
Dory: I don't!

It's great. They take leap of faith and let go. And the whale shoots them out of his blowhole and back into the great blue sea. Marlin and Dory are back in the sea and able to continue their adventure.

What if the church as we know it today is the whale? What if Jesus is telling us to let go? Of course we say, "How do you know nothing bad will happen?" The answer is, "I don't." But I do have faith in Jesus. And I do have faith that He knows. If we let go, there is an adventure to be had in the world where He is at work.

But first, we have to let go.
